Babylon Circus

Babylon Circus – La belle étoile (CD/Digital)
Released on 12th April 2010

Download reviews

Babylon Circus are back. And they’ve done more than just change or even progress; they’ve undergone a complete renaissance.

They’re as powerful as ever on stage but this latest studio album signifies a change of narrative for the Circus. With songs of love and friendship to the fore after David Baruchel’s brush with death you feel the band have different things to say. More profound, more important things… and that’s apparent right from the start of their new album, which is going to win these buccaneers the recognition they deserve.

Babylon Circus who once listed The Clash, Mano Negra and Bob Marley as their influences now freely lay claim to other inspirations, including Higelin, Renaud and Téléphone.

Their naturally uplifting, gypsy ska and reggae beats come together with lyrics which talk with sincerity and humour about marriage, post-coital cigarettes and head injuries. A particularly outstanding collaboration with Karina Zeviani of Thievery Corporation fame on ‘Marions-nous au soleil’ heralds an album with high ambitions and excellent pedigree to go with it. A multi-lingual and multi-faceted album delivered by a multi-talented band.
