Welcome To Gerry Lyseight Online.gerry and cachao

“Thanks to Andy Wood and Como No I not only finally got to see one of my great musical heroes, Cachao, in London last year but also got to meet him. It was his only ever appearance in the UK and for me, and many others, it was a joy and a privilege. Israel “Cachao” Lopez died in the company of his family at home in Miami on Saturday 22nd March and I can only say a heartfelt thank you for some of the most profound, at times imperious, at times playful but always joyful and swinging music. Over the course of his very long life Cachao released scores of CDs but if you haven’t checked his music out previously do yourselves a favour and track down “Master Sessions Vols 1 + 2”. As I used to say from behind the counter at Mr. Bongo’s record shop as I sold copy after copy of those CDs ‘you can thank me later’.
See link below for news item.”
